J.T. Christian, a rising junior in the Creighton men’s tennis program, continued his strong summer play with a doubles title at a 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit event held in Norman, Okla., from July 24-26.
Seeded second entering the event, Christian teamed with incoming Cornell University freshman Evan McElwain to win three matches en route to the crown. After an opening-round bye, the duo whitewashed Michael Delloro and Naman Galvan, 8-0, to reach the semifinals.
In the semi’s, the Christian/McElwain duo defeated Logon Collins (Marquette) and Drew Freeman (Nebraska), 8-5.
The tournament finals saw Christian/McElwain beat Cale Hammond (Duke) and John Warden (Oklahoma) by an 8-3 score.
Christian went 13-6 in singles play last season and was 14-6 in doubles action for Creighton, his first in Omaha after spending his freshman year at Marquette. The Lenexa, Kan., native earned a spot on the All-Select squad of the 2010 All-Missouri Valley Conference Team, joining Oliver Floth (2002) and Haakon Nygaard (2000) as just the third player in program history to do so.
