The Omaha Royals rallied late for the second game in a row to beat the Portland Beavers Thursday night at Rosenblatt Stadium. With one out and the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Kurt Mertins blooped one into shallow right field giving Omaha a 4-3 win.
Mertins was 0-for-11 with the bases loaded this season. The Royals were down 3-2 in the seventh and used the long ball to get back in the game. Ed Lucas led off by with a home run, his 12th in 68 games. Lucas, has hit five in his last eight games.
Jai Miller hit a two run homer in the second inning that gave the Royals an early 2-0 lead. It was the third home run in four at-bats for Miller, who hit a pair of in Omaha’s 8-7 win in Wednesday’s series opener.
