Saltdogs starter Chris Cullen moved to 3-4 on the season controlling the St. Paul Saints lineup by allowing just two runs on three hits over eight innings in a 6-2 win Thursday night at Haymarket Park.
Cullen allowed two hits and a run in the first inning, but gave up just one more hit over the next seven innings while striking out six.
Lincoln, grabbed the lead in the first inning scoring two runs on a Rafael Alvarez RBI double and a single by Roberto Alvarez. St. Paul closed to 3-2 by scoring a run without a hit in the top of the sixth, but Lincoln put the game away with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Pat Trettel drove in a run with an RBI double, and Jeremy Gillan picked up an RBI on a fielder’s choice grounder. With the bases loaded and two out Roberto Alvarez fouled off nine pitches with two strikes, and finally earned an RBI walk on the 15th pitch.
Alvarez finished the night 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. The two teams play game two of their three-game series Friday night at 7:05. Right-hander John James will make the start for the Saltdogs.
