The Lincoln Saltdogs roll to an easy win as they beat the St. Paul Saints 11-6 last night at Haymarket Park. The win was the second in a row for the Saltdogs.
It would be a come from behind win, as the Saltdogs trailed 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth, but Argelis Nunez tied the game with a three-run homer off of St. Paul starter Jacob Schmidt.
Lincoln would then explode for five runs in the fifth, all of those coming with two outs. Rafael Alvarez hit a two-run double, Juan Richardson came up with an RBI single and Nunez hit a two-run homer, his second of the night.
St. Paul stayed in the game with runs in the sixth and seventh, but Lincoln put the game away in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and two out, Roberto Alvarez hit a bases-clearing, three-run double to put the Saltdogs up for good.
Lincoln starter John James struck out seven over 5 and 2/3 innings to get the win. He allowed a two-run single in the third, and a solo home run in the fourth, but still has yet to suffer a loss as a professional. Counting his college career at LSU-Shreveport this past spring, James has won 15 of 16 games in 2010.
Nunez went 2-for-3 with five RBIs. His 18 home runs this season have him tied for second in the league, and he’s also tied for third on the Saltdogs’ all-time single-season home run list. Gavin Dickey was 3-for-5 on the night, while Roberto Alvarez went 2-for-4 and drove in three.
The two teams play the finale of their three-game series tonight as Angel Castro will make the start for the Saltdogs.
