New uniforms, new construction, new system…it’s all apart of John Cook’s plan to reinvent the volleyball program at Nebraska. While Cook was surprised at his team’s slow start last year, he felt they were one of the top four teams by the end of the season.
“By reinventing, we’re kind of looking at everything we’ve done, what has made us successful, what can we do better. I think one of the cool things about coaching is figuring out your talents and creating a great system for them to thrive in.”
The Huskers finished last season strong winning 10 matches in straight sets leading them into regionals against Texas, where Nebraska fell 3-1. NU started the season ranked third and dipped to as low as 10th after losing to then #2 Texas back on September 16th. NU climbed to as high as 5th in the rankings, but got knocked down to 10th again after another setback at the hands of the Longhorns.
After that loss, that is when Nebraska went on their run which included two sweeps over Iowa State. One came during the regular season and the other took place in their first round regional matchup when the Cyclones were ranked 5th in the nation and the Huskers 7th.
