Omaha starter Anthony Lerew moved to 7-3 by throwing eight shutout innings to lead the Royals to 2-1 win over the Sacramento River Cats. It was the seventh win for the Royals in their last eight games.
Lerew lowered his season ERA to 3.01 by allowing just six hits, two walks, and two strike outs for his second consecutive win. In the seventh, Omaha broke through when Kurt Mertins reached second on a throwing error by River Cats shortstop Eric Sogard. Mertins stole third and scored on Cody Clark RBI single to make it 1-0.
Mike Moustakas who had his first four-hit game in Triple-A, delivered a two-out RBI single in the ninth, to go up 2-0. Sacramento slugger Dallas McPherson blasted hit an opposite field homer off Royals reliever Victor Marte to start the bottom of the ninth. Marte set down the next three hits to record his third save of the year.
