The Sacramento offense was held to three hits as the Royals won 3-2 over the River Cats winning three out of four and now eight of their last nine games to remain 2.5 games behind first place Iowa.
David Lough snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out single off Sacramento starter Bobby Cramer (1-1) to score Irving Falu, who reached on an error, to give the Royals a 2-1 edge. Scott Thorman added insurance with an RBI single in the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, reliever Tim Collins allowed his first Triple-A run in twelve innings, giving up a one-out RBI double to Jeff Baisley to make it a 3-2 Royals lead. Then, Josh Rupe struck out pinch-hitter Chris Carter and getting Michael Taylor for his tenth save. Omaha starter Matt Herges (6-3) got the win, only allowing one run on one hit over five innings.
