Lifetime registered Sex offenders may have received a surprise over the weekend. As early as 6:30 in the morning, Nebraska State Troopers we’re out knocking on the doors of addresses given to them by Lancaster county lifetime registered sex offenders. The troopers were trying to assure that those registered offenders were living in the place in which they were registered. The visits were a surprise. The same types of checks are done across the state and lead to serious penalties for those sex offenders lying about where they lay their head at night, That penalty is up to a $10,000 dollars in fines and five years in jail. The new Nebraska Sex Offender law took effect in January and requires quarterly check-ins with law enforcement.
