No fear of any rust from not practicing since Thursday. Ray Gallegos scored 18 points to lead five Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska opened play in the Bahamas with a 117-72 win over Y-Care Wreckers Tuesday evening.
The Huskers made 25-of-35 shots in the first half to open a 57-34 halftime lead. Gallegos was 7 of 9 on shooting and juco transfer Caleb Walker had 16 points, hitting 7 of 8. Christian Standhardinger had 16 points.
After the game, NU coach Doc Sadler told Huskers.com, “We were hoping to play on Sunday, and we hadn’t practiced since Thursday, so I was very pleased with how we came out tonight. One of the positive things was we had 26 assists and shot over 60 percent, so I though we shared the ball very well. As in all games, you can find things you didn’t like, but I thought the effort was tremendous and the enthusiasm of our bench was great all night. Those are some of the things you don’t talk about with a team, but you are pleased when you see it. It was a good start for us.”
