Luis Mendoza won his fourth straight start, pitching eight shutout innings to help Omaha blank Fresno 5-0. The win, coupled with an Iowa loss, moved the Royals 1.5 games back out of first place in the American Conference North.
Mendoza, now 4-0 in August, allowed just four hits, one walk, and five strikeouts in his longest outing of the year.
Third baseman Mike Moustakas blasted a two-run shot, his first homer since August 1st, in the fourth inning off Matt Yourkin (6-7) to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. The homer was Moustakas’ 6th in Triple-A, and 27th for the season.
