The Memphis Redbirds took advantage of two hit batters with the bases loaded to beat the Omaha Royals 10-9, handing Omaha their four loss in 15 games. Both teams are now 3.5 games behind Iowa, as the Cubs beat Nashville 3-2.
The Royals trailed 6-0 entering the bottom of the fourth, but rallied with three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead. But, in the top of the sixth, Omaha reliever Louis Coleman (4-2) gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out. He then hit Mark Hamilton with an 0-2 pitch to force in the tying run. Ruben Gotay lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give the Redbirds a 9-8 lead.
In the eighth, Memphis scored a needed insurance run when Josh Rupe hit Matt Pagnozzi with the bases loaded and one out to force in the Redbirds’ final tally.
