The Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha and the Lopers of Nebraska-Kearney find themselves ranked in the top 20 of the latest Division II football poll to come out as both teams are building off high expectations.
D2Football.com has the Mavericks, who went 7-5 last season, ranked 20th in their poll. Last season was the first year that UNO played in the MIAA conference. Division rivals Missouri Western is 14th, Washburn is 9th, and defending national champion and longtime rival even before the MIAA, Northwest Missouri State is number one.
Nebraska-Kearney went 11-2 last year and won their first round playoff game was picked 10th by the website. The American Football Coaches Association picked the Lopers for 13th in their poll. UNK opens the season this weekend against Wayne State, then heads to Omaha on Saturday, September 4th to play the Mavs.
