After completing a weekend sweep on Sunday of Sioux City, the Lincoln Saltdogs had to wait for a 9-7 win by Sioux Falls over St. Paul to clinch a playoff spot. Lincoln will meet Sioux Falls in the best-of-five division series that begins on Tuesday on the road.
Lincoln started the three-game series trailing the Explorers by one game in the wild card standings, but eliminated the X’s by winning all three games by scores of 14-5, 4-2 and 1-0. The Saltdogs also finished ahead of Wichita in the wild card standings.
Lincolns still needed help from first half winners Sioux Falls who had to win the second half to allow Lincoln to get in as the Wild Card. The Pheasants held a one game lead over Wichita in the second half. Wichita beat El Paso, meaning the Saltdogs needed a win from Sioux Falls to claim the playoff spot. That’s exactly what happened as Sioux Falls beat St. Paul.
Sioux Falls earned the right to choose whether to host the first two games or the final three games of the best-of-five division series and elected to host the first two games. Game one is scheduled for Tuesday night at Sioux Falls Stadium. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
The Saltdogs will host game three of the division series on Friday, along with game four on Saturday and game five on Sunday if necessary.
