Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett was on the practice field working out with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League after signing a one year deal with the newest team in the five team league.
The Nighthawks may be taking a chance on the former star who spent three and a half years in prison. Clarett looks at this as another chance to make it in professional football. Clarett came into a Denver Broncos camp in 2005 out of shape and overweight and was soon cut after the Broncos spent a third round pick to draft him.
In a statement released by the team, Clarett said, “I am humbled by the opportunity the Omaha Nighthawks have given me and will dedicate myself on and off the field to prove that I can be a valuable member of the team and the Omaha community. I am committed to working hard to earn the right for a second chance in football and more importantly in life.”
