What a day for Kansas City Royals prospect Mike Moustakas who earlier in the day took in some golf with other Omaha players prior to their series opener against Round Rock.
Not only did Moustakas find out that he was named the Texas League’s AA Player of the Year for his time down in Northwest Arkansas, but he showed why he’s on the fast track to the majors with a career night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
The Royals won in grand fashion beating Round Rock 23-5. Moustakas finished 4-6 with three homers including two in third inning while driving in 11 runs. The Royals would send 16 men to the plate in their 11-run 3rd inning. Moustakas hit a two run shot off Andy Van Hekken and a three run shot off Gary Majewski later in the inning. He added a bases clearing double in the 4th and another three run shot off Casey Daigle in the 7th.
The only bad news on the night for Omaha was unfortunately Iowa also picked a good night for offense beating Albuquerque 20-9 leaving the royals 3.5 games back in the PCL American North.
