Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini met with the media Tuesday morning and said none of the starters will be named until Saturday. While it may be maddening for the media and the fans, there is a methosd to his madness.
Pelini says he has a “decent” idea who will start at QB. He wants the competition to continue and not become a circus. He says he understands two of the three quarterbacks could feel let down by not finding out until the day of the first game, but Pelini is not concerned that the team will not rally around whoever starts.
First and foremost, Pelini thinks as much attention that has been paid to the quarterbacks, he still feels the offense is built on the running game and if any team wants to win a championship, they have to be able to run the football.
On the other side of the ball, Pelini says they have the potential to be a great defense. He thinks they are better in some areas than last year and some areas that need help, but its about getting better each week. He doesn’t look much into stats, but he says the key is limiting big plays, doing well on third down situations and stopping the run. Pelini says if the Huskers can do that, they’ll be good.
