23,795 fans packed Rosenblatt Stadium one more time to see the final baseball game in its 42 year history, a 6-2 win for the Royals over Round Rock. Brian Weihs was there for the final pitch.
Round Rock scored a run in the first inning on a wild pitch by Luke Hochevar, who was making his second rehab start with Omaha. It didn’t take long for the O-Royals to come back. In the bottom of the first inning, Minor League player of the year candidate Mike Moustakas hit a two-run homer to right-center giving the Royals on top 2-1.
The home run turned out to the last one hit in 62-year old ballpark’s history. Moose hit his Minor League-leading 36th home run of the season. Round Rock starter Sergio Perez (3-4) gave up two more runs in the third inning, and another in the fourth. Jarrod Dyson, picked up the final hit in the stadium’s history with an eighth inning single, scorig Kurt Mertins for the final run.
Royals lefty Edgar Osuna (1-3) got the final win in the ballpark’s history.
