If you chose to drink and drive over the past two weeks, you have have left jail with a Drunk Driving Citation. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol took 110 impaired drivers off Nebraska roads during the more than two week long special “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” enforcement campaign.
The nationwide effort which began on Friday, August 20, 2010, ended on Labor Day, Monday, September 6, 2010. Troopers and Communications Specialists put in overtime hours during the enforcement period thanks in part to a nearly $33,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
The Nebraska State Patrol conducted special enforcement efforts to include saturation patrols, vehicle checkpoints and other high visibility efforts focusing on time periods in which alcohol related activities are considered to be highest. One fatality was reported over the long Labor Day holiday weekend in 2010 that compares with four fatalities in 2009. A South Dakota resident died in Cherry County Nebraska Saturday.
