A 58 year old male teacher’s assistant at Logan Fontenelle Middle School in Bellevue is behind bars accused of sexually assaulting a 12 year old student in a hallway. Bellevue Police Lt. Dave Stuckenholtz says Clifton Stovall turned himself in Tuesday.
“Reported she was in the hallway of the school that day, she was inappropriately touched by an adult male and then she reported it to the police that evening so we started our investigation.”
Lt. Stuckenholtz says the 12 year old girl reported the incident on August 30th.
“Identified the male who had touched her in the hallway is an employee of the school. Following several interviews with staff members and students, we determined there was cause for arrest.”
Lt. Stuckenholtz says there were others present who witnessed the incident.
“Part of the reason it took so long to complete the investigation is we had to find everyone who was nearby.”
Bellevue Public Schools spokesperson Cathy Williams confirmed that Stovall was an employee at the school.
“Is a para-professional at Logan Fontennelle Middle School in our Success Center.”
The Success Center is an area students receive extra assistance. Williams says Stovall had supervision while working with students.
“The gentleman was a para-professional there so there is a certified teacher there in the classroom.”
Williams says Stovall will be absent from the school even if he posts bail.
“He is on leave right now pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Stovall was booked for 3rd degree sexual assault.
