The Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks are winless in their first and only two non-conference games losing to the Ouachita Baptist Tigers 38-23, at Al F. Caniglia Field. It’s the first time since 2002 that the Mavericks have started a season 0-2.
OBU quarterback Eli Cranor drove the Tigers down the field for touchdowns on their first two drives to go up 14-0. Cranor completed 13-straight passes to open the game. UNO kicker Jacob Ramsay put the first Maverick points on the board when he hit a 26-yard field goal to end the first quarter to make the score 14-3. It was Ramsay’s first career field goal.
Sophomore wide receiver Brian Miller brought the score to 14-10 when Jon Daniels connected on a 32-yard touchdown with 2:21 left in the second. OBU responded when Cranor hit Nico Hobbs for a 17-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left in the half to increase its lead to 21-10. The Tigers put up 17 more unanswered points to get out to their largest lead of the game at 38-10 early in the fourth quarter.
OBU compiled 557 yards of total offense to UNO’s 366. The Tigers controlled the time of possession with a 37:44 to 22:10 advantage in the game.
