The Omaha AAA baseball team is changing their name. With the exception of three seasons when they were the Golden Spikes, the team has been known as the Royals since 1969. However, with a new ballpark in Sarpy County next season, the organization wants a new name. They narrowed a list of 400 down to the final 24. I have to admit, looking at these final 24, many of them are still pretty lame, so I can only imagine how bad the 376 other names were.
Now, the Royals are still on the list and I have to say the one that stuck out to me is the Omaha Sizzle. There’s Thunderbats, Locomotives, that’s not bad…how about this the Sodbusters? Hmmm, not sure of that one.
Anyway, here’s the list. Blue Bombers, Cattlemen, Commanders, Diamond Dogs, Force, Funnel Clouds, Hailstorm, Locomotives, Meadowlarks, Monarchs, Omahogs, Prairie Dogs, Prairie Thunder, Pride, River Rats, Royals, Sizzle, Slayors, Sodbusters, Storm Chasers, Thunderbolts, Thunderbats, Twister and Windwalkers.
The names were picked on the relevance to the Omaha area and it had to be something fun and family oriented. Fans can vote from not through September 27th at the team’s website.
In case you were curious, my three votes: Sizzle, Locomotives, Cattlemen
