Omaha’s YWCA will be hosting an event on Tuesday that will help women
explore employment opportunities and how to dress for success. Director
of Career Services Margo Parsow says is aimed at helping women start the
path toward self suffienicy. They have arranged for a number of
services, organizations and individuals that will be attending and will
provide their assistance.
“We will be offering legal services consultation from one to four. We
are hoping to have someone here in the morning. We will have a make-up
artist here all day who will be providing make up tips for the ladies.”
Parsow says women sometimes feel they are stuck between a rock and a
hard spot because of legal issues.
“If women are in transition and have questions that need to be answered
about situations they are encountering, whether it be a divorce,
financial matters, protection orders, custody hearings. It will be
consultative service for women to ask questions of an attorney that
perhaps they may not have access to at other times of their lives or in
Parsow says a fun part for those attending is the dress for success
portion. With the help of individuals and many businesses, they offer
free career clothing to those attending.
“Two people who will be offering career advice and consultation on
clothing. We have our wonderful signature career closet that will be
available for people who attend the event. They may select two outfits,
a handbag, shoes and some accessories.”
Parsow says they offer services year-round to help women win domestic
violence situations, career services, counseling, preventive training
education and nonviolence programs.
“This is all about empowerment and self sufficient. We are hoping this
will empower women to feel better about themselves, do what they need to
do to be self sufficient and move forward in a very successful manner.”
This event is Tuesday, September 21st from 8am to 6pm. It will be held
at the YWCA Center in Omaha at 222 South 29th Street.
