Nebraskans who have been touched by the death of a child are encouraged to attend a special dedication ceremony on Sunday at Boys Town. Kelly Pelster with the Omaha Chapter of Compassionate Friends says their goal is to support families after the death of a child.
“And we know that everyone doesn’t go to support groups when a child dies so we want to provide something for everyone where they can connect and heal.”
Pelster says the “Angel of Hope” memorial is designed to help families remember and celebrate the life of a child.
“The statue is a four-foot bronze and the base is of a child and its arms are lifting up toward heaven and the wings are dove’s wings symbolizing peace.”
Pelster says this event will give those mourning the loss of a child to meet with other families who are sharing similar grief.
“I think parents will think they are not alone and others have made it and a chance to meet others there to help them get through it.”
The unveiling will be at 2 o’clock at the Garden of the Bible at Boys Town.
