A late night pursuit in Ogallala Monday has landed a juvenile offender in a Panhandle detention center, charged with many crimes. According to Ogallala Police Chief David Kling, officers received a report of an uncontrollable juvenile at an Ogallala trailer park. The 14 year old suspect, whose name has not been released, took his parents’ vehicle before officers arrived and fled the home.
Once officers located the vehicle, the suspect sped off into the heart of Ogallala. The pursuit continued, acquiring a Nebraska State Trooper, towards Lake McConaughy. The suspect turned onto a dirt road near a restaurant on the south side of Kingsley Dam before striking a tree, ending the pursuit.
The suspect was treated for minor injuries and released from the Ogallala Community Hospital. The suspect, who is a ward of the state of Nebraska and was on house arrest, was transported to the Scottsbluff County Youth Detention Center in Gering. The teenage suspect was charged with several crimes including unauthorized use of a propelled vehicle, felony operation of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, obstructing a police officer and numerous traffic violations. No other injuries were reported in the pursuit.
