The website, TheOpenMat.com has picked the Nebraska wrestling squad for 16th in the nation in their preseason poll as well as tabbing three individuals for top 10 rankings. It is NU’s final year in the Big 12 and while that conference is real solid with Oklahoma State at #2, Oklahoma #9, and Missouri #10, nothing compares to the Big Ten which boasts eight of the top 20 (nine if you include Nebraska).
Minnesota is #3, Iowa #5, Penn State #6, Wisconsin #7, Ohio State #11, Purdue #13, and Northwestern, Illinois and Michigan rounding out the top 20 at 18-20th.
The Huskers’ highest individual ranking is senior Jordan Burroughs, is 92-20 in his career. He is ranked 2nd at 165 pounds. Last season, his goal of a second straight national title was cut short by a torn LCL and PCL in December.
Junior Tucker Lane is ranked 7th in the Heavyweight division following a 23-12 season. Sophomore Josh Ihnen will was picked 8th at 184 pounds.
