The bad news about an off weekend is there wasn’t any Nebraska football this weekend. The good news, we only have to wait until Thursday for the Big 12 opener as the Huskers take on the Kansas State Wildcats in Primetime. As the Huskers enter their final season of Big 12 play, they know the target on their backs will be big, especially when you consider they were one second away from being the Big 12 Champs.
I want to talk about the national rankings for a moment because there was a big shakeup after this weekend. Starting with the Huskers first, NU dropped to 7th in the AP, remained at 6th in the Coaches Poll. NU got passed by Oklahoma in AP after beating Texas 28-20. The Longhorns drop out of the Top 25 for the first time since October 15th of 2000, a streak of 162 weeks. Texas has the week off before coming to Lincoln a week from Saturday. Since we talked about the move to the Big Ten, I’ll talk about Penn State. They lost for the second time this season, falling to Iowa 24-3, Joe Paterno’s team falls out of the Top 25 as well. Ohio State remained #2 behind Alabama.
