Law enforcement officials are warning Nebraskans about a frightening e-mail message turning up in their in-boxes.
According to Ogallala Police Sergeant Billy Davis, threatening emails are being sent from undisclosed people and locations seeking money from the recipient. The emails claim that the sender is a hired assassin and has been hired to kill the recipient.
The sender tends to include some sort of a name, but no other identifying information. The emails typically don’t contain any sort of personal information about the recipient either.
The sender then says he will call off the operation if the recipient can come up with a good offer. Davis says some people are even receiving similar messages via text on their mobile phones.
Davis says these scams are typically sent from overseas and the emails are usually from a G-mail account.
If you have questions about the authenticity of an email or a text message similar to this one, law enforcement officials encourage you to alert your local law enforcement and/or forward the information to your Attorney General’s office.
