The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department issues its first citation for texting while driving under the state’s new law. Chief Deputy Sheriff Bill Jarrett says that a deputy stopped an 18 year old driver when she failed to signal a lane change and almost hit another car. She admitted that she was texting at the time. There was also an open container in the car. Tracy Hildebrand was also cited for DUI and MIP and careless driving. Lincoln Police have so far issued 8 texting while driving citations since the secondary offense law went into effect July 15th.
