Wayne State College moved to the top spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Wildcats received 29 of 32 first place votes thanks to Friday’s night win over former number one ranked Minnesota Duluth. Not only is it the first time that a Wildcat volleyball team has been ranked #1, it’s the first-ever team in Wayne State athletics to be ranked #1 in NCAA Division II.
The Wildcats swept Augustana College 3-0 last Tuesday before the win over Minnesota Duluth and then followed that up with a 3-0 sweep over Bemidji State on Saturday for a new school record 16th consecutive victory. The Wildcats lead the Northern Sun Conference with a 7-0 league mark, one game ahead of Concordia-St. Paul (6-0 in league play).
The road doesn’t get easier for the Wildcats who take off for this weekend for a tough Northern Sun Conference road trip, playing at #16 Minnesota State (10-4) Friday night at 7:00 p.m. followed by a visit to 3rd-ranked Southwest Minnesota State (14-2) Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
