This Saturday at Elliott Field in Chadron could be the 70th and final meeting between the Chadron State College football team and 14th ranked Nebraska-Kearney in a key Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
The Lopers are joining the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 2012 and could play a full conference schedule, meaning the Lopers-Eagles rivalry will go away.
The Lopers are riding a 13 game conference winning streak and this is a must win game for Chadron State. The Eagles are now 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the RMAC, while Kearney is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league action.
After a 24-17 loss to Wayne State in overtime in the season opener, UNK beat Nebraska-Omaha 32-29 (a MIAA team) and has won three RMAC games. The reason this is must win for the Eagles, after their triple OT 33-30 loss at CSU-Pueblo, teams with more than one loss normally don’t find themselves in the running for a RMAC title.
