Thousands of kids from across the state will be attending the Plum Creek Children’s Literacy Festival, underway through tomorrow in Seward. Festival Coordinator Vicki Gremel says they’re featuring seven children’s authors this year.
Gremel says, “Our biggest name is probably Patricia Pallocko, Dan Gutman, Ashley Bryan, Alyssa Capacilli, Pat Shorees, Saraq Weeks, and Ralph Masialo.”
Gremel says the festival got underway on Thursday but she notes today will be a big day for the 15th annual event. She says, “About 4,600 kids will come from all over Nebraska and sit in on hour-long sessions and then on Saturday is our adult conference.”
That adult conference is for librarians, teachers, parents and administrators. Gremel says it’s an extremely popular event, also in its 15th year.
She says, “1996 was our first, we had just one author that year. It’s grown to seven authors and there were 200 kids that came that first year and now we’re at almost 9,000 over these three days.”
