NCAA Division II’s top ranked Wayne State volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season falling at 16th-ranked Minnesota State in four sets by scores of 25-17, 17-25, 35-33 and 25-23. Wayne State is now 16-1 and 7-1 in league play.
The host Mavericks jumped out to a 6-1 in the first set as Wayne State never got closer than points. WSC took the second set thanks to 16 kills to tie the match. In the third set, the Wildcats had four point leads of 9-5 and 14-10 and led 24-22, before the match went back and forth into the 30’s. In the fourth and final set, WSC rallied from down 22-17 to tie the game at 22-22, before the Mavs closed out the game with three of the final four points.
