There was quite a shakeup in the college football national rankings after former #1 Alabama was beaten at South Carolina. Ohio State is now the new number one team and the Huskers benefitted as well moving up to five in the AP poll and fourth in the coaches’ poll, where the Huskers picked up two first place votes and trail the Buckeyes, Oregon and Boise State. In the AP poll NU was fifth with TCU ahead of the Huskers.
Now this week, it’s onto the Texas Longhorns, a team that has been circled and highlighted on the NU schedule ever since the Huskers 13-12 in the Big 12 championship game. However, this is a different Texas team that will be coming into Memorial Stadium. The Longhorns are out of the Top 25 for the first time since 2000 and a win by the Huskers on Saturday would give Texas their first game losing streak since 1999. Ironically, Nebraska was involved in that streak as well, when Texas lost the regular season finale to A & M, the conference championship game to the Huskers and then their bowl game. 1997 was the last time a Mack Brown team lost three regular season games in a row.
