The 2010 Girls State Golf Championship tee off Monday morning in the two-day 36 hole event. The Class C meet takes place at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus where defending state champion Boone Central returns four golfers to make another run at the title. Doniphan-Trumbull’s Danielle Lemek, who is going for her third straight state title. Lemek, who shot a 66 to win the district title admits there is pressure this time around.
The Class B meet will be held at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island where Scottsbluff goes for their third title in a row and fourth in five years. Sabrina King, who won last year’s individual title for Gering (according to the Nebraska School Activities Association), will lead Scottsbluff.
The Class A meet is at Norfolk Country Club where Omaha Marian goes in as the favorite as winners of the last five Class A championships. However, Lincoln Southwest, Norfolk, and Grand Island, the last school to win before Marian’s run are all considered favorites. Jacqueline O’Doherty who shot the fourth lowest score in districts puts her title defense on the line.
