Nebraska’s starting quarterback Taylor Martinez was named the Big 12 offensive player of the week for his performance in the Huskers 48-13 win over Kansas State.
Martinez, accounted for 369 yards, carrying the ball 15 times for 241 yards with four touchdowns, on runs of 14, 35, 80 and 41 yards. He also went 5 for 7 for 128 yards, including a 79 yard touchdown.
Martinez’ 241 rushing yards set a NU quarterback rushing record and were the 8th most in school history. It was also the most rushing yards by any Husker since 1991. The 369 yards of total offense was an NU freshman single game record while the four rushing touchdowns was the first time a Nebraska player did that since 2002.
Martinez has 12 touchdowns this season with eight of the 12 covering at least 20 yards, including a pair of 80 yard touchdown runs. The redshirt freshman’s 79 yard touchdown pass to Kyler Reed was the longest pass play for NU since 2002.
