Nebraska head football coach Bo Pelini is not yet ready to write off the defending Big 12 champion Texas Longhorns who will have two full weeks to get ready for this game Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
The Longhorns 3-2 on the year, coming off a loss to #8 Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry game in which they almost came back from a two touchdown deficit before losing 28-20. The week before that, Texas was upset when UCLA went into Austin and dominated for a 34-12 win. That UCLA team may be as close as you can get to Nebraska in terms of style of play or at least how that game played out. The Bruins defense forced four first half turnovers and they rushed for 264 yards.
The following week in the loss to Oklahoma, DeMarco Murray carried the ball 25 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns. I can just begin to think how big a game the Huskers could have the ground and I’ve been really impressed with the offensive line blowing people off the line.
Sophomore running back Rex Burhead, a Texas native admits, having this game on the schedule was a bit of a distraction and now he’s glad the game is finally here.
