U.S. Senator Mike Johanns of Nebraska is sending a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explaining his concerns over the route selection for placement of the Keystone XL pipeline in the state. The plan places the pipe in the Sandhills near the Ogallala Aquifer. Johanns says that’s dangerous.
“You can literally drill a fence post hole and it fills up with water in some part of that aquifer area, if you’ve got an oil spill you’ve got oil in the aquifer with water.”
Johanns says the State Department must convince us that the examination of alternate routes for the pipeline was thorough and consideration was given to the unique soil in the Sandhills that could make a problem possible.
