Nebraska roadways continue to be safer this year than in nearly any other year on record according to Fred Zwonechek with the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety. Zwonechek told us, officials are able to use information gathered about fatal accidents and use that to prevent others.
“The traffic enforcement efforts are more scientific, they’re addressing high crash locations – certainly those are playing a role, public policy. it’s just a combination of things that can play roles in reducing these numbers.”
Zwonechek says traffic fatalities are down by 19 percent for the year to date. He says alcohol plays a factor in about a third of those crashes.
