The Omaha City Council will look at sexual orientation today and whether an ordinance should be added to the city charter. One ordinance would list homosexuals and lesbians as a “protected class” that would ensure all citizens receive equal enjoyment and equal protection. Omaha City Councilwoman Jean Stothert says many businesses already have regulations in place regarding sexual orientation.
“Many private businesses that, not necessarily based in Omaha, Kiewit, Union Pacific, Wells Fargo, they have it in their anti-discrimination statement. My position would be that private business has the right to do that but should we be forcing it on every business? That is the real question.”
The Omaha City Council will hear this proposal this afternoon
