The Big 12 suspended Husker linebacker Eric Martin for his hit on OSU’s Andrew Hudson which came as Martin blindsided Hudson on Niles Paul’s 100 yard kick off return for a touchdown. The Big 12 came down on Martin for using the crown of his helmet. He was one of three who were suspended this week for flagrant hits. Head coach Bo Pelini would not comment.
Big Ten teams be on alert…The Huskers heard some great recruiting news last night when Aaron Green, in front of friends and family at his church in San Antonio committed to the NU football program for 2011 choosing Nebraska over Texas, Florida State and Cal and he said he was sold on the program after coming for a visiting during the game with the Longhorns. His older brother Andrew is a redshirt freshmen on defense. Green comes to NU as a five star recruit according to scout.com and rivals.com has him listed as the fifth best running back for that class. So far, he rushed for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns.
We always hear from our coaches on how well our players are doing and how talented they are, but it’s also nice to hear it occasionally from the other side. Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel is very complimentary of quarterback Taylor Martinez and he says when you play a team every year, you have a good idea of what they’re going to do…but when you have a player like Taylor that you’re trying to defend, it makes it a lot tougher.
Martinez can hurt you with more than his legs, he showed last week he’s got the arm to beat teams as well. Missouri cornerback Kevin Rutland the key for him and the defensive secondary is to stay with their man or Taylor will light them up.
