The Nebraska women’s basketball team cleaned up on the boards and turned a two point, halftime lead, into a laugher as the Huskers opened preseason play with a 78-60 win over Pittsburg State, Sunday afternoon at the Devaney Center.
NU was led by two time Nebraska High School Player of the Year Jordan Hooper, who scored 21 points and had eight rebounds, four steals and two assists. Sophomore forward Katya Leick both recorded double-doubles with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
NU pulled down 16 offensive rebounds in the second half and 25 for the game and won the overall rebounding battle 57-36, against the NCAA Division II Gorillas.
Lindsey Moore, the lone returning starter from last year’s NCAA Sweet 16 team, Lindsey Moore scored 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and two steals for NU. Senior Dominique Kelley sat out Sunday’s game after undergoing knee surgery in September. The 5-7 guard could be back for this Sunday’s exhibition finale.
