Well, now the national media is jumping all over this story of Bo Pelini making a fuss or if it even is a fuss about how quiet or lethargic he thought the crowd was on Saturday night. He first made his comments on his weekly TV show that was taped shortly after the 20-3 win over Kansas.
Hey, as a fan it’s up to me to decide when or when not to cheer, but I also have no problem if a coach whether it’s Pelini or any other coach calls out fans for not being as loud as the team is used to. When Pelini was asked about the atmosphere at Kyle Field at Texas A & M with their status of having the loudest fans and the 12th man and all that stuff, Pelini smiled and said Nebraska’s fans were louder.
Alright back to stuff on the field. The Blackshirts are on the rise nationally. After holding KU to 87 yards of offense, the Huskers went from being ranked 23rd in total defense before the Kansas game to sixth. They also jumped from 73rd in run defense to 63rd, and moved from sixth to second in pass defense after holding the Jayhawks to 15 passing yards.
There were two schools of thought regarding Taylor Martinez. One, let him rest one more week against Kansas so that his ankle could heal a little further or two, get him in this game where he wouldn’t need to be 100% and there would still be a good chance Nebraska could win. Bo Pelini felt it was important to get Martinez in the game last week to work off the rust so he wouldn’t be sitting two weeks in a row and to get him ready for the stretch run which includes this game against an improving Aggies team and a shot to clinch the Big 12 North this Saturday.
