The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake occurred at around 7am Thursday that triggered a 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale. USGS officials say the quake occurred about three miles underground. Schuyler Police Chief Leonard Hiltner says he was as shocked as anybody that Nebraska could have an earthquake.
“When I heard the noise I was in a building and the last thing I thought about was an earthquake, but I contacted the Nebraska Emergency Management and found that we had an earthquake with the epicenter about six miles south of us I was somewhat shocked and surprised.”
Hiltner says he didn’t feel any movement, but heard loud sounds around the city.
