The High school football championships wrapped up yesterday at Memorial Stadium. The Crete Cardinals are the Class B champions. A great team effort helping running back Brock Sherman carry the ball 30 times for 207 yards and a touchdown as Crete beats Elkhorn 34-0. Sherman finishes the year with 2,315 yards and 37 touchdowns.
Norfolk Catholic takes the C-1 title 28-13 over the archrival Pierce as the Knights score in unconventional ways including two interception returns and a halfback pass. Pierce lost 28-20 in the regular season to Norfolk Catholic who finishes the season a perfect 13-0.
In the closest game of the day, Hastings St. Cecilia got a big fourth quarter from Cody Jackson, who rushed for 66 of his 117 yards in the fourth quarter to help the No. 1 Bluehawks to a 17-14 win over fourth-ranked Archbishop Bergan in the Class C-2 championship game. It was St. Cecilia’s second straight state championship after winning the Class C-1 title last year.
