So what are they saying out in Washington about the Huskers-Huskies rematch in the Holiday Bowl? Bob Condotta who writes for the Seattle Times says that the Holiday Bowl was ready to take Notre Dame as an opponent for Nebraska, but Bruce Binkowski, the executive director of the Holiday Bowl says they are a Pac-10 bowl as well and they are happy to get Washington as the second team.
In fact, the Huskers were 44 seconds away from having Notre Dame as their opponent. Heading into last weekend, the Holiday Bowl wasn’t guaranteed a Pac-10 team. It is obligated to take the No. 3 choice of bowl-eligible teams from the conference, but Washington needed to beat their in-state rival Washington State to qualify. So the Holiday Bowl had backup plans, and was all set to get Notre Dame if Washington lost the Apple Cup. Instead, UW scored late to beat the Cougars and earn a spot in San Diego.
