Nebraska Legislators are cheking the their list and checking it twice…as they look at a list released today of possible cuts to balance the state budget next year. Lincoln State Senator Tony Fulton tells us that these are just options.
“These are very serious things that we are talking about, but at the same time, this is the first go, these are some options that are going to be considered during our process of writing the budget.”
The proposed cuts include a 49.4 million dollar reduction in University of Nebraska funding, suspending a need-based scholarship program….cutting staff at the Department of Health and Human Services, educational television, and legislative staff positions. There are also proposals to reduce aid to county governments and shift dollars from the lottery to K-12 education.
