Hundreds gathered at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church last night in Omaha in memory of Jeff Podraza and his two daughters who died in a traffic accident Saturday. Father Mike Swanton says parish members have stepped to the forefront.
“There has been an outpouring of grief and yet there has been an outpouring of support from our parish family. There is just a comfort there.”
44 year old Podraza, 12 year old Jordan and 10 year old Taylor were killed with a collision with a semi near Broken Bow. Authorities say Podraza’s SUV crossed the center line and hit a semi-head-on on Highway 2.
Both Jordan and Taylor attended St. Wenceslaus and Father Swanton says they are being remembered this holiday season. They are also offering others help with the loss.
“We have three Christmas Trees outside the school and those who would like can write a little message on a paper ornament and place it on the Christmas tree. There is counseling for those who would like it whether they are in 5th or 7th grade or an adult.”
Father Swanton says the congregation is pulling together.
“In our congregation there are people who are willing to step up by providing food or plan the services or just to be with the family, help the kids. Help in any way. They are really stepping up like any family member would in a lovinG.”
