The Husker football team held their first practice in San Diego on Sunday on the campus of Cal-San Diego. Southern California has gotten quite a bit of rain and they had more on Saturday which made for some interesting field conditions on Sunday. I’m sure if they had their choice, Tight end Ben Cotton and wide receiver Mike McNeil would take the weather and just about everything else in San Diego over Lincoln this time of year, except their practice field.
Receivers coach Marvin Sanders sounded iffy when asked about Niles Paul on Sunday, but after another practice, Paul says he’s ready to play tomorrow night. Another player who has benefitted from the time off is quarterback Taylor Martinez. Paul expects to see the Taylor we’re use to seeing.
Shawn Watson’s name has surfaced for a couple of head coaching positions, having talked with Vanderbilt and then where he was an assistant at Miami of Ohio, Watson says he tries not to focus on things he can’t control.
Regardless of what happens, Watson says Tom Osborne and Bo Pelini have his back.
