The 13th-ranked Nebraska wrestling team is in Evanston, IL to take part in the 48th annual Midlands Championships at Northwestern University. The Huskers trip to the Midlands Championships will mark their first trip to the tournament since the 2001-02 season.
Competition starts at 9:30 a.m. with a second session starting tonight at 7:00 p.m. The tournaments’ last two sessions will take place on Thursday,with the third session starting at Noon, and the fourth session starting at 7:15 p.m. The fourth session will include each weight classes championship, third and fifth-place matches.
The Huskers are 6-2, coming off a come from behind win over Oregon State Beavers on Dec. 11. Nebraska will send several wrestlers to the championships, including Mike Koehnlein (141), No. 2 Jordan Burroughs (165), Caleb Kolb (174) No. 10 Josh Ihnen (184), Andy Johnson (197) and No. 10 Tucker Lane (HWT). The tournament field includes 97 nationally ranked wresters, and nine wrestlers who are ranked at No. 1 or 2 at their respective weight classes.
