Omahans will head to the polls on January 25th for the Mayor Jim Suttle recall election. Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps (fips) says early voting starts January 10th. Residents can request a ballot by mail and it will be sent out that day. He believes there will be a lot of requests for early voting.
“Early voting is going to be a good component to this election because you never know what the weather will be like on the 25th. You don’t want to get stuck at home if you can’t make it in.”
Phipps says they are also extremely busy getting everything ready for the election.
“We’ve got the ballots ready to go. We are just about ready to print those. Those should take a few days to print. The biggest thing is getting poll workers and polling places ready to go. We are finalizing that.”
Those not registered to vote can do so at libraries, the DMV or by mail through January 7th. Omaha residents can register in person at the Election Commissioners office until January 14th.
